Picture of a Water Vole

As you can see the Water Vole is different from a Rat, the Water Vole has a
rounded nose and small ears, the Rat has a pointed nose and large ears.
The Water Vole has shorter hairy tail unlike the Rats long hairless tail.
It makes a plop sound as it enters the water and its usually only the
tail that you catch site of to identify them.

Water voles are found mainly along slow moving rivers with vegetation on the banks,
they use this to provide cover and also eat the vegetation.
They are in decline because of river banks being cut back,
resulting in loss of habitat and attack from predators.
Nice mown grass is absolutely no use to preserve and encorage wild life.
