Solid Geology
The solid Geology of Kedington and most
of west Suffolk is chalk.
Surface Geology
Due to the periods of glaciations Boulder
Clay with chalk lumps covers all central and western Suffolk.
River valleys contain out wash gravels
and river deposits.
Soil
Chalky Boulder Clay and is up to 226ft
thick (known as clay loam or strong loam).
Loamy soils in river valleys.
Slowly permeable calcareous/non calcareous
clay soils, slight risk of water erosion.
Deep well drained fine loam, course loam and
sand soils, locally flinty and in places over gravel, slight risk of water erosion.
