Sites I have worked on in the area

Risbridge Home, Kedington (KDG-019) May 1997

This site located in the front area of the now demolished Risbridge Home (now a new housing estate), was just a small fragment of a large Late Iron age  / Early Roman settlement site. An amazing amount of pottery was recovered from this small section including complete undamaged pottery, this implied that for some reason these had been deliberately hidden. A full report can be read at Kedington Library.

Burton End & Puddlebrook Haverhill 1998 (HVH 035, 036, 037, 039)

This had 4 sites of different periods,  Iron Age, Roman, Medieval and Post Medieval now covered with a new housing estate. I mainly worked on the Medieval site consisting of an area for animal processing industry, a large square pit was fully excavated containing a vast amount of complete Horse bones in the region of 30/40 Horses. This is a major find and is being fully researched. (see pictures)

Hales Barn, Withersfield (WTH 011)

This site was Late Bronze Age / Early Iron Age, A large area was uncovered only to discover, that due to the thin covering of soil, most of the Archaeology had been ploughed and eroded away by the weather. This we had first hand experience of, as it rained during the whole excavation with rivers of rain water running across the site. Due to the above very little was found, a few bits of pottery and on the final day a decorated bronze pin was found. This site will be covered by a new housing estate yet to be started.

Church Road Chilton Industrial Park Sudbury (CHT 015)

This site covered the periods from Iron Age to Saxon, A kiln, a round house site, signs of metal working ,cremations and most surprising of all was an inhumation (see Pictures). Now covered by new factory. The  full report for this is incomplete at this time. Waiting for cabon dating results.

Haverhill Business Park Helions Park Essex 2002 (STBHB 02)

As a result of an evaluation excavation in September 2002 a full area excavation will take place at the end of April this year. The site is a Late Iron Age / Early Roman one, also a small area of Bronze Age activity was located. The excavation has been completed and full report is being compiled.
